Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that, within two to three months, Barak Valley will have a new Coronavirus hospital with 300 beds.
He said the new hospital would also have a 300-bed intensive care unit (ICU) built.
Speaking to Silchar reporters, Sarma said the state government has already published the tender notice and has been given 48 hours to submit the proposal.
He said they’ve already begun looking for a property. He said he will inspect a plot on the way to Kumbhirgram airport in Udharbond in Cachar district.

Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) will now operate as an exclusive Coronavirus hospital after signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the owners of 22 nursing homes in Cachar district.
He said the maternity and burn wards would continue to work in SMCH because the former was separately located and there was no burn care available elsewhere in Barak Valley. Sarma said patient care would be at the rate approved by the Government. He reiterated that as of Monday morning, SMCH will begin functioning as a Covid-19 hospital.

Sarma said Assam did not reach stage one of the Coronavirus officials spreading, as no positive case has been identified so far. He said the people should be very vigilant or the situation could get worse. He said an infected person can not immediately show symptoms but they may transmit the virus to another susceptible person with a weakened immune system. He called COVID-19 a “silent human bomb,” and said it would threaten anyone coming into contact with an infected individual.

The alleged entry of some construction workers and laborers from neighboring Mizoram into Hailakandi and other Barak Valley districts has created obstacles for the Department of Health to track them and conduct medical checks, sources said.
Some videos were broadcast on social media showing some youths who allegedly entered Assam after walking through jungles and hills for four days, spread over 65 km along the interstate border, talking about their plight after the lockdown.
The Mizoram government wants to step back to monitor the spread of coronavirus both workers and staff belonging to the Barak Valley. The boundary between the States in the district of Hailakandi has been sealed.
Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli took the matter up with Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna, who has reportedly begun the conversation with his counterpart from Mizoram.
Police Superintendent Pabindra Kumar Nath of Hailakandi said all of the roads connecting with Mizoram were sealed and they are tracking some people who sneaked into Assam.
Forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya said Friday that those who came from Mizoram to Lailapur in Cachar were put under house quarantine, and he had instructed the Hailakandi administration to take similar steps.
Sarma said some Mizoram individuals were already placed in quarantine.
Sources said the Hailakandi, Cachar, and Karimganj district administrations are planning to quarantine laborers and workers if they enter from Mizoram.

Public notification systems were installed in front of Sadar Police Station and Lakshmisahar on Herbertganj Road, in Hailakandi District, to disseminate instructions from government and administration. The software will extend to other places too.
